Biography:

 

Morgan Freem is an American actor, producer and narrator recognized for his deep authoratitve voice and also primarily one of the most respected figures in modern US cinema.

Freeman was born on 1 June 1937 in Memphis, Tennessee, as a son of  Mayme Edna, a teacher, and Morgan Freeman Sr., a barber. Before started studies in the School of Acting, he spent five years in the US Air Force, working as a mechanic. In 1968 he made his acting debut on the stage as Rudolph in “Hello, Dolly”. Then he played in some Sheakespeare’s dramas, and appeared in several of interesting Broadway and off-Broadway production. In the early 70s he played several characters, such as “Easy Reader”, “Mel Mounds” and “Count Dracula” on the Children’s educational show “The Electric Company”.

Throughout the 1970s, he mainly continued his work on theatrical stage. At that time Morgan Freeman won Drama Desk and Clarence Derwent Awards and also received a Tony Award nomination for his performance in The Mighty Gents in 1978. In 1980, he won also two Obie Awards, for his portrayal of Shakespearean anti-hero Coriolanus at the New York Shakespeare Festival and for his work in Mother Courage and Her Children.

For the first time on the big-screen he appeard in 1971 in the film “Who Says I Can not Ride a Rainbow?”. Over the years, he was filled in the same, schematic roles, until he received a nomination for an Academy Award and a Golden Globe for The Best Supporting Actor for his part in the film “Street Smart.” The second Oscar nomination and gained celebrity status in 1990 when he starred in the charming comedy “Driving Miss Daisy.” Then he appeared in such movies as “Glory,” “Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves” and “Unforgiven.” In 1993 he made his debut as a director, realizing the film “Bopha!” – which tells the story of a black cop and his son, persecuted by the supporters of apartheid – and soon after formed his production company, Revelations Entertainment. A year later, he played in movie “Shawshank Redemption”, for which he was awarded an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor.

Freeman Jr. was married twice. First he married Jeanette Adair Bradshaw with whom he have daughter (Morgan Freeman). From seccond marriage with Myrna Colley-Lee, he have daughter and son (Deena Freeman and Saifoulaye Freeman). From his early life, Freeman has also extramarital children; one of them is Alfonso Freeman.

Only few people know that Morgan Freeman, at age 65, earned a private pilot’s license and owns at least three private aircraft. Freeman also is a beekeeper – after becoming concerned with the decline of honeybees, he decided to turn his ranch into a sanctuary for bees in July 2014, starting with 26 bee hives.
